Alex started out at Sempris as an intern and impressed us so much that we offered her a full-time position even before she graduated from the University of St. Thomas. As a Marketing Analyst, Alex performs a variety of duties including the distribution of creative assets and monitoring and reporting on website performance among other things. When Alex isn’t wearing her analyst hat, you can find her partaking in CorePower yoga classes, playing with Tico, her Chihuahua, or putting her six-time national champion competitive dancer skills to work as a Minnesota Vikings cheerleader performing at charity events and all Vikings home games. That’s right! We’ve got a professional NFL Cheerleader working amongst us! Skol Vikings.
There are lots of numbers and processes to account for when you're controller of a successful business... credits... debits, receivables, payables, balance sheets, gross margins, etc. Whatever the term, Casey's the man to make sure all the $$$ add up and are accounted for down to the last penny. Plus, he's in charge of our Professional Development department and knows all the ins and outs of all our benefits. If you have a question about the latest HSA plan or about our 401k match, Casey's got the answer. It's funny, some people say accounting folks are all work and no play, that's not true with Casey. He's a fun guy to be around and is our resident card shark. In fact, he's a Texas Hold 'em tournament winner and is the perennial winner of our casino game day. Now, Casey's on to curling and who knows if he puts half the amount of effort and dedication he puts into his work into curling, maybe one day he'll be a local curling hero. By-the-way, Casey makes a mean bowl of chili and his ghost pepper chili is always a winner at our annual chili cook-off, and he loves the look of a well-done budget sheet. Of course.
Danielle came to us from Novus and brings to Sempris the knack for providing the best account and client management skills possible to our clients. She’s worked with a lot of heavy-hitters including Sam’s Club, HBO, Cox Communications and Special Olympics and is a guru in all things marketing operations, media planning and strategic development related to print, radio, and TV. She’s got skills, lots of skills. She’s also an awesome gardener and interior designer who has a keen eye for a special find that puts the finishing touch on a secret garden or special room. Danielle loves to travel, attend rock concerts and says she’d “give her left arm to see the Rolling Stones live”. Rock on!
Dave is a man about town… a foodie, live music aficionado and downtown-loving, electric-scooter riding Minneapolitan. Dave's love for music is only surpassed by his love for finding restaurants that are off the beaten path and undiscovered gems. Dave's also the voice of Sempris and he and his team make sure that each and every customer interaction is taken care of in the best possible way. That's why Sempris has earned an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We're proud of that fact and we earned it through hard work and by making sure that our customers get the A+ treatment every time. Dave truly is the face of our customer service department and his passion for helping our customers, along with over 25 years of experience, is as strong as his passion for food and entertainment. You never know where Dave's next music and food adventure is going to take him, maybe New York for a Hold Steady concert, but you always know that if you're a customer, Dave will respond to you professionally and with respect. That's just the way it is.
Growing up, Dawn spent a fair amount of time on the farm and was a member of the 4-H program where she held every club office including 4-H ambassador. She was also a 4X 4-H Grand Champion and that’s a pretty big deal around here if you know anything about our state fair… the Great Minnesota Get-Together. It’s rather famous. Dawn tells us she learned a lot of her mad leadership and team-building skills through that awesome experience and by working for a diverse group of companies including Donaldson Company, and Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. She also started her own business when she was just 10. Always passionate about business, and the ever-changing world of payments, Dawn’s our in-house expert on all things payment processing and has shown some of the processing industries biggest players a thing or two about how to get it right. That’s not bravado… that’s a fact. Of course, Dawn’s not all work and no play, she enjoys fishing, swimming, relaxing, watching movies, and spending time with her large family and a whole lot of friends. In addition to her busy work and play life, Dawn also volunteers and inspires other women to seek out and reach their maximum potential.
Just like the high score he bowled at one of our recent outings, Eric brings his best game when it comes to working with clients. He always provides important information and up-to-the-minute stats that are essential to their business. Along with our other Marketing Analysts, Eric’s a wiz at working the finer details of Google Analytics and maneuvering through the minutia. He studied both marketing and sports management at the U of M (Go Gophers) and in fact was a social media intern for the Gophers and the Minnesota Training Center. He recently took his first camping trip and liked it so much that more are in his future. Fun fact, Eric’s got a twin sister and no they aren’t identical. That would be impossible.
You don’t get all of those titles unless you really know your stuff, and George knows his stuff. With over 30 years in the Direct Marketing Industry, George knows a thing or two about peddling merchandise, marketing concepts, and ideas, and his astute style and quick wit make for a perfect combination of making money and having fun. In case you’re wondering, George was amongst the top of his class at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science — Economics, Summa Cum Laude, and an MBA with Distinction. He started out as a consultant at McKinsey & Company at the ripe old age of 23. He also held executive positions at Montgomery Ward Direct and Sears, Roebuck & Co. and acted as an independent advisor to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and to the family of Greta Garbo and other internationally-known brands, providing expertise on licensing, direct-to-consumer and retail merchandising and marketing strategies. George takes a hands-on approach to everything he does, and the results are always excellent. While he’s not thinking about the next big idea, George likes to go deep sea fishing, traveling and collecting art. He's also an avid runner and canyon hiker — as long as his knees hold out.
When we started looking for an account development manager, our Marketing crew knew exactly who to turn to and called Marcy right away. Known as a hard-working account manager with a passion for all things direct response related, Marcy brings her energy and business skills to clients and customers alike. Marcy honed her skills while working at Marketing Architects where she was an account director and where she specialized in a broad collection of brand categories including health and beauty, financial and debt consolidation services, nutraceuticals, online dating and more. Marcy’s knowledge is broad and her client skills are great. She’s honest, bright and works hard to maximize her clients ROI. Like all of the Sempris staff, Marcy isn’t all work and no play. Fitness and exercise are important to her and taking to the local lakes to paddle board or play hockey (she used to be a figure skater) with her hockey-loving kids, all adds up to a good time.
Without knowing it at the time, Mark was destined for a Direct Marketing career when back in 8th grade he wrote a letter to a clock company asking for a rush on parts that he needed for a clock he was building for his mom for Mother’s Day. Mark’s letter not only persuaded the company to rush the parts in time for the much-anticipated gift giving he also ended up getting free delivery. Fast forward many years later, with time spent at Fingerhut and now Sempris, and doing consultant work for HandTech.com and PCFlowers&Gifts.com, Mark is still at it working his writing skills but now also directing a Creative Department and challenging a fabulous team to do its best work. Add it all up and Mark figures he has over 40 years experience. When away from the office, Mark enjoys traveling, listening to vinyl (yep, he kept all his old albums), bike riding, shooting hoops and spending time with his family and grandson. Not necessarily in that order.
Art director extraordinaire… the doctor of Design, Mary specializes in all matters print and earned her street cred working for Scheels Sporting Goods, Fingerhut, Deluxe Corporation and Sempris. Mary will take an idea and turn it into a high-quality money-generating piece that gets a response every time. She’s thorough and makes sure that all mailing specs are met because what good is an awesome advertisement if it’s unmailable, right? While she’s not putting together a super high-quality promotional piece, Mary’s got mad baking skills, her Boston Crème Cupcakes are out of this world, and she's also a skilled wedding and birthday cake designer and baker. She's into arts and crafts, too and is even an award winner. Plus, she’s the mother of three ranging in ages from 13 to 21 and spends quality time with the entire family going on bike rides, hikes, and movies whenever she gets the chance.
A Chicago transplant but now making Minneapolis her home, Meg is relatively new to Sempris compared to a lot of us old-timers, but she is definitely not new to Marketing. In fact, Meg’s experience with previous employers; infogroup, FICO and Marketing Architects helped mold her into the maverick sales person and marketing wiz she is today. Meg lives and breathes direct response marketing having cut her teeth in modeling and analytics. She prides herself on a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach and getting to know what makes a business tick. That comes from having a mindset that looks beyond the norm, understanding the numbers and getting right to the big picture. Meg's hands-on approach helps make our clients comfortable in knowing that they are always going to get the best service and skills imaginable. While contemplating the next great successful Marketing initiative, Meg is known to traipsing across the U.S. on a weekend adventure or squeezing in as much time as possible with her family, on the lake they call Gitche Gumme.
A man of few words but lots of ideas, Merrell is our go-to web designer and is a key player in the creation of our websites across all businesses. He’s well versed in the nuances of design and keeping his finger on the pulse of the latest design trends and is known for breaking a few of his own. Merrell tells us that he’s bowled two perfect 300 games, back-to-back no less, placed second in the Tour de France and was the runner-up in the Grand National Pho Eating Challenge. The guy likes to exaggerate but there’s no exaggeration when it comes to quality of work and the attention to detail Merrell puts into every website. That’s the stuff we need and that our clients expect every day. Here are some true Merrell facts. He likes to fish, drive fast cars and have fun with family.
Like all of us at Sempris, Mike has a real passion for Direct Marketing and his over 30 years of direct-to-consumer marketing experience working with catalogers and marketers like Fingerhut, Montgomery Ward Direct, Damark, and of course, Sempris is proof positive. Mike’s a smart guy and is a growth leader and an innovator known throughout the company as the king at creating and developing powerful metrics and providing game-changing direction that not only enhances our services but also provides clients with expertise and solutions that leads to more money. Mike has a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Psychology from Hamline University right here in Minnesota (Go Pipers) and played hockey while in college. He just recently retired his skates so he could spend more time with his grandkids.
A hands-on guy, Paul, a.k.a. Wally, is involved in every aspect of Sempris services, from new business development to list management and everything in between. A true genius when it comes to Internet and Affiliate Marketing, Paul was a key player at Digital River as he helped launch the super successful OneNetworkDirect business where he was the regional VP of Client Services. Parlaying that expertise, and what he learned about marketing while working at Fingerhut, Montgomery Ward Direct and Deluxe where he played a pivotal role, he turned to work for Sempris and adding his expertise to our already well-established executive team. When he’s not involved in a “from the ground floor up” new business plan, you’ll often times find Wally doing a major home remodeling project like installing a bar in his man cave or adding a deck to his house. Or, you may find him partaking in a thirst-quenching beverage at one of the local breweries in town with his lovely wife. Oh yea, Paul has a B.S. and Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota, too.
The wizard of IT… the maestro of data. Rod specializes in building, creating and making absolutely certain that Sempris has the best and coolest technology available for us worker bees and clients alike because there’s nothing better than having technology tools that are easy to work with, but also rock solid and accurate information. Rod’s a hands-on guy too. He’s been known to lay down a few lines of code now and then and keeps abreast of the latest coding trends and techniques. His hobbies include woodworking, maintaining a gnome garden and taking long rides on his bike... Sorry, not the kind you pedal but the kind that gives you the punch-in-the-gut power you can only get with a 111ci engine. Plus, he’s owned his own technology business.
Tom's been in the bean counting business for over 40 years and has worked at a number of top companies including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Wilsons Leather (formerly Berman Buckskin), Sweet Ideas, Regis Corporation and Scott Lewis Schools. Do you see a pattern here? A couple of Tom's positions were at haircare companies and as you can see, Tom's got a great head of hair. Jealous? Maybe. At Sempris, Tom keeps the numbers in line and makes sure that our credits and debits match up. Of course, he does much more than that, he's skilled in GAAP, knows all about tax planning, financial planning and reporting and treasury services... and definitely knows his way around a spreadsheet. Tom has an MBA from the U of M and graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University and is a CPA. No, he doesn't do taxes on the side. But if you ask nicely, who knows.
